San Diego Unified School District

San Diego brings scale, a second county behavioral health system, the cohort’s only southern California context, and a vertical feeder structure that lets one student population be tracked from a middle school into the high school it feeds. The three participating schools are Pacific Beach Middle; Mission Bay High; and Clairemont High. The district first identified a different three after the August 5 kickoff, on a vertical articulation rationale, then refined the selection toward campuses with an established continuum of care. Pacific Beach Middle feeds Mission Bay High, and each of the three operates an on-campus wellness center, which is what lets the project measure how well services already running are working.

San Diego County Behavioral Health Services. The district is a named partner in SDCOE’s COPES suicide prevention initiative, Phase 2, a $7 million four-year award.
BHSSA / MHSSA Standing
Named partner, the strongest documented BHSSA standing in the cohort. Allocation is held at district level; the county publishes no site-level split.

BH Staffing (Sites)
School counselors in place at all three sites and identified as the staff who lead administration, alongside an on-campus wellness center with a wellness coordinator at each. The wellness coordinator is the designated behavioral health lead at each site, and that established infrastructure is why these three were selected.
Existing Screening
Clairemont High has administered a behavioral health screener previously, and reviews screening data in a weekly multi-tiered system of support meeting attended by the site administrator, the school counselor and the wellness coordinator.
SIS And Access
PowerSchool · Clever single sign-on live districtwide.
Consent Model
Set at district level, on the program’s family consent platform, split by grade band: active consent for 6th grade at Pacific Beach Middle, passive notice with opt-out for 9th grade at Mission Bay High and Clairemont High.
