Mount Pleasant Elementary School District

Mount Pleasant has the most behavioral health service in place and the least measurement around it, and the district said so. August Boeger’s wellness center logged more than 10,000 visits against roughly 400 students last year, and the district wanted an instrument that says what those visits produced. It selected two Community Schools and one campus running a universal instrument for the first time, specifically to see implementation with and without existing scaffolding. Screening dates are fixed for October 1–2, the only LEA in the cohort with a fixed administration date.

Urban neighborhood district on the east side of San José. The smallest LEA in the cohort by enrollment, and the one where the participating sites represent the largest share of the district: three of five schools.
Populations Served
1,497 students district-wide; 1,340 at the three participating sites, 90% of the district. Socioeconomic disadvantage 68.5–82.4%, English learners 37.0–44.7% (the cohort’s highest), students with disabilities 10.4–18.8%.

Board-Adopted BH Investment
$198,655 per year under LCAP Action 1.6, “Additional Staff to Monitor Progress and Services for Our Most Vulnerable Students”, funding one additional FTE psychologist LEA-wide. The smallest figure in the cohort, at the district with the highest need concentration.
County BH Relationship
Santa Clara County Behavioral Health School Linked Services is named as a funder of family liaison and engagement work across all three Community School implementation plans.
BHSSA / MHSSA Standing
Within SCCOE’s MHSSA consortium of 31 districts, awarded July 2020. The grant names the thirty-one districts collectively, so standing is held at consortium level.
CYBHI Fee Schedule
Cohort 4 participant. No reimbursement recorded on the DHCS participant list.
Community Schools
CCSPP implementation district. August Boeger and Robert Sanders are both designated Community Schools and both are BHPM sites: one of two cases in the cohort where the two initiatives meet at site level rather than district level.
BH Staffing (Sites)
August Boeger: wellness coach, school counselor, counseling resident. Robert Sanders: counselor (shared) and community school coordinator, with roughly 0.2 FTE county ARCC Tier 2 support. Ida Jew / Valle Vista: counselor (shared) and a community school coordinator with wellness coach certification.
Existing Screening
“Sown to Grow” weekly check-in: fully implemented at August Boeger and in its second year at Robert Sanders. Ida Jew Academy / Valle Vista runs its first universal instrument through this program.
